A Classic: West German Pottery

As a keen junker, I need to talk about West German pottery.

One of my girlfriends avidly collects West German pottery (WGP). She easily has hundreds in every shape, size and colour. I like WGP. I like the bold colours and the chunky glazing. But she loves it. So, my favorite thing about WGP is finding it (for a good deal) and then gifting it to my girlfriend.

Occasionally I'll keep a piece for myself. Like this one. It was $20 at a garage sale in Burlington two summers ago. That wouldn't have been a big deal 10 years ago but WGP sightings are rare these days. People seem to know that it's valuable. Every time I see a great piece, I think fondly of those days when you'd see a few pieces on a given Saturday morning and they'd each be a quarter. Maybe fifty cents.

What do you think will be the next emerging star of the junking world? My bets are on silverware and crystal.
